Blackpool South Shore Motor Club members were in the prizes at last weekend’s Wigan & District Motor Club’s Adgespeed Stages at the town’s Three Sisters Race Circuit.

John Stone gave his co-driver son Alex, a Myerscough College student, his maiden rally victory after the pair headed the standings throughout in their Ford Fiesta S2500. They had to withstanding a strong challenge from the MG Metro 6R4 of local crew Ian and Lynn Rowlance, winners of the event in each of the previous four years.

With Stone establishing a ten second lead by the end of the fourth of the day’s twelve special stages a change of tyres helped Rowlance halve that deficit by the finish. The South Shore crew weren’t to be denied though always appearing to have plenty in reserve should the situation require it.

In a repeat of their result on this event last year South Shore co-driver Chris Sharpe-Simkiss guided Brandon Smith to fourth overall, taking the 1st in Class E Awards in their Darrian T9. They left it late though, only securing their result by taking a second from the Sunbeam Lotus of Mike Taylor and Louise Gilks on the final stage.

Sadly, it wasn’t such a good day for South Shore’s Matt Daniels who was co-driving Brian Whiting, with clutch failure forcing their Ford Fiesta into retirement whilst on the fringe of a top ten finish.
